Mike and I feel quite blessed that it doesn't appear the girls are autistic. But we did go through a period of time where we were worried. They are both speech delayed and were developmentally delayed. Luckily where we are we have a great Early Intervention program that they are both still involved in. Speech Therapists and a Developmental Therapist come to our house to work with the girls, and they are in STEPS (early intervention) for 6 hours a week. Not only were we lucky to get them into the program, the state pays for most of it - it can be very expensive. All of this makes me very supportive of anything I can do to support Autism Speaks.

I am so glad you posted this. My niece has a son who is 2 weeks older than Jaden. He excelled in everything before Jaden with the one exception of any speech. He can sit for 2 hours and do the same thing. He sat for 2 hours one day at an old sewing machine that you pump with your legs. He is now 4 and still doesnt speak very much or well. He has gone to preschool since he was 2 and they were teaching him sign language. My niece and her boyfriend will get very upset if you mention autism... I feel sooo bad for him. He needs someone to get him help!!!
